Happiness as a Goal: Coach Jami Keller

Throughout the month of January we continue helping you all to set happiness-increasing goals when you’re thinking about what to focus on for a happier new year. We invited some of our coaches to share their views about happiness and goals. In this interview, Jami and Marla Keller weigh in on how goals relate to happiness for their clients.

What priority is happiness as a goal for your clients?

Very high along with life satisfaction. A #1 priority.

Where do you find real contentment comes from for your clients?

Accepting and valuing themselves and their partners.

What kinds of goals lead to the greatest happiness?

  1. Being truthful
  2. Forgiving others and self
  3. Magnifying gratitude
  4. Focusing forward (letting go of the past).

What kinds of goals do clients feel will bring them happiness, but often fail to?

  1. Money
  2. Being right
  3. Changing others
  4. Working harder

How do you support a client in creating beneficial goals?

Providing a safe environment to allow for a bigger story and a better party. We have found that our 90 minute sessions break through many barriers.

Does achieving goals lead to greater happiness for your clients?

Most definitely, every time.

Defining them clearly, and teaching principles that help instead of the bad habits most are unaware of before our coaching process.

What blocks goal achievement?

Stubborn adherence to negative thinking.

What helps goal achievement?

Greater awareness that comes with trauma resolution. This allows us to see where we create our own pain, and develop skills for happiness. 🙂

What do you think your clients need in order for you to support them in setting happiness goals for 2015?

Following three basic disciplines:

  1. Forgiveness
  2. Vision (communicating clearly)
  3. Mindfulness
