Becoming a Life Coach is a Very Simple Affair

Keeping things simple is easy as a life coach.

Life coaching is one of the few occupations that don’t require some sort of licensing or government control. There is no organization that is designed to handle an accreditation process for life coaching.

What all of that means is that while there are organizations that support life coaching, there is no need to earn a certificate before beginning your life coaching business.
There are some other things that you may consider before you open our doors for business though. These are things that even though they are not required they will help you to be more successful.

More important than a license

In many occupations people know how to do the job, but don’t want to or can’t see the value of jumping through the hoops necessary to get the license or certification. Instead they choose to do something else.  With life coaching it is not about the piece of paper that says you are certified, it is knowing how to do the job and do it well. If you are not very good at it you will not be able to sustain your business.

Clients really don’t care about your training or certification

Clients are like most other “patients” or customers at other service oriented businesses.  They don’t care if you are certified or where you obtained your certification from.  They just want you to be there when they need you.

The most important thing to the client

The thing that means the most to the client is that you are really good at what you do.  They want someone that can help them unbury all of the garbage and work through it.  They want someone they can trust.  They want someone that will encourage them to go through the hard things to accomplish the sweet success of achieving their goals.  They want to be listened to.

Skills that will help you be great

There are some skills that will go a very long way to helping you earn success as a life coach.  One of the most important things is to know what your job is and how it can help your clients. Know what questions to ask and how to ask them so that your clients are able to find their own solutions. Continue to educate yourself and continue building your strengths and practicing on areas where you are weak.  This will help you to build your confidence so that you will feel like you could coach anyone from any situation and do it with skill.

It’s a business

One of the things that it is important to remember is that this is your business and like any other business venture in order to be successful you have to have clients and customers.  So, it is important to have a marketing plan that has goals and specifics about how you are going to reach your demographic market.  It is also important to recognize the importance of an office setup and how the whole business side works together with your coaching so that you can be successful.

A certificate is not necessary to opening your life coaching business, but a little planning and skill will go a long way to making sure that it is successful and rewarding.
