It turns out, according to the laws of physics, bees shouldn’t be able to fly – their little wings just don’t make sense for their rotund bodies.

Look, life throws us curveballs, and sometimes it feels like we’re walking around with a giant “Kick Me” sign on our backs. But every now and then, we need to embrace our inner bumblebee and say, “You know what? I’m going to ignore those naysayers and believe in myself.”
Indeed, some of the most successful and influential people in history have faced self-doubt, yet managed to push forward and achieve greatness. Let’s take a look at a few:
- Charles Darwin often doubted his own work, worrying that his groundbreaking ideas would be rejected. Despite his self-doubt, he persevered and revolutionized our understanding of evolution and the origin of species.
- Michael Jordan faced rejection early in his career when he didn’t make his high school basketball team. He didn’t let that setback define him and went on to become the greatest basketball player of all time.
- J.K. Rowling, renowned author of the Harry Potter saga, faced rejection from 12 different publishers before getting published. She persisted and ended up creating a phenomenon.
- Walt Disney, pioneer of animation, was once fired for “lacking imagination.” He pushed on to create an enchanting universe that lives on.
- Albert Einstein, one of the most brilliant minds,, didn’t speak fluently until he was nine years old. Many thought he wouldn’t amount to anything significant, but he proved them wrong. Ever heard of E=MC2 anybody?
These folks teach us a lesson – never doubt yourself.
What about in coaching?
I’ve seen countless coaching clients struggle with self-doubt, which can seriously hamper their ability to achieve their goals.
It’s a common issue we face. We all have moments when we question our capabilities, wonder if we’re good enough, or worry about the outcomes of our decisions.

But here’s the thing – these doubts can actually help us grow and develop resilience.
They push us to self-reflect, evaluate our skills and progress, and strive to do better. Overcoming self-doubt requires a careful balance between recognizing your insecurities and still having faith in your abilities to move forward.
I’ve learned from my experience with clients that it’s about tapping into the right strategies and coping mechanisms to prevent self-doubt from consuming and controlling our lives.
Along the way, I’ve encountered various techniques to help my clients break free from their doubts and embrace their potential.
One of the most effective ways is learning to appreciate our strengths and achievements, while acknowledging our weaknesses and focusing on areas to improve. This mindset fosters a more positive outlook on our capabilities, gradually building confidence and self-assurance.
What does never doubt yourself mean?
I often come across clients who struggle with self-doubt. So, what does “never doubt yourself” mean? It’s all about developing a mindset that embraces your abilities and strengths while being self-aware of your weaknesses.
I’ve noticed that when clients choose to believe in themselves, they are more likely to take on challenges, learn from their mistakes, and grow. “Never doubt yourself” implies trusting your instincts, even when faced with uncertainty or fear of failure.
For instance, I remember working with a client who doubted her ability to speak in public. By addressing her fears and focusing on her strengths, she gradually developed a “never doubt yourself” mindset. Over time, she became more comfortable presenting to larger audiences and even enjoyed the opportunity to share her knowledge.
Also, a crucial part of “never doubt yourself” is knowing when to seek help or guidance to overcome hurdles. As much as we strive to be self-reliant, some challenges require collaborations or support from others. I’ve also noticed how clients who accept assistance and don’t view it as a sign of weakness often go on to achieve their goals more efficiently.
Embracing a “never doubt yourself” attitude doesn’t mean we should disregard our limitations. Instead, it’s about recognizing those limitations and working to improve them, while staying confident in the skills and talents we possess.
Why should you never doubt yourself?
I’ve seen how self-doubt can hold people back and stop them from reaching their full potential. I’ve come to the conclusion that there are several reasons why one should never doubt themselves.

- First, doubting yourself can lead to a cycle of negativity. When you constantly question your abilities, you reinforce the belief that you’re not good enough or incapable of succeeding. This negative thinking pattern is tough to break and could result in a self-fulfilling prophecy, limiting your growth and achievements.
- I’ve noticed that some of my clients are their own biggest critics. They undervalue their skills, experiences, and accomplishments. I often remind them that if they don’t truly believe in themselves, how can they expect others to? Confidence in your own abilities is key to achieving success and overcoming obstacles.
- Another reason not to doubt yourself is that everyone experiences self-doubt. That’s right, even the most seemingly successful, accomplished individuals have their moments of uncertainty. During my coaching sessions, I’ve heard clients share their stories of imposter syndrome, thinking they don’t belong or deserve their accomplishments. Just remember, you’re not alone in your self-doubt, but it’s important not to let it consume you.
- Doubting yourself can hinder your decision-making ability. When you’re unsure about your skills or knowledge, you’re more likely to second-guess yourself and procrastinate. As a coach, I help my clients overcome this by working on their decisiveness and learning to trust their gut instincts.
- Lastly, self-doubt can prevent you from seizing opportunities and taking risks. If you don’t trust your capabilities, you might hesitate to go after your dreams, try new things, or challenge yourself. As your coach, I’d advise you to embrace your fears and uncertainties as catalysts for growth, rather than roadblocks.
What happens when you doubt yourself?
I have witnessed firsthand how self-doubt can hold people back from achieving their goals and living their best lives. When you doubt yourself, it has various consequences on your mental and emotional well-being.
- Self-doubt can paralyze you and prevent you from taking action. I’ve seen many of my clients hesitate to make decisions or pursue their dreams because they don’t trust their own abilities. This uncertainty keeps them stuck in a never-ending loop of questioning and worrying, instead of moving forward and learning from their experiences.
- Constantly doubting yourself erodes your self-esteem. When you’re unable to give yourself credit or accept compliments, your confidence takes a hit. One of my clients, for example, couldn’t acknowledge her own accomplishments and always sought reassurance, which made her feel even more inadequate.
- Another consequence of self-doubt is the increased possibility of making mistakes. In my experience, when clients doubt their abilities, they tend to be more cautious and unwilling to take risks. Ironically, this excessive caution leads to missed opportunities and, in some cases, errors caused by overthinking.
- On top of this, self-doubt can also negatively impact your relationships. When you don’t trust your own judgment, you may find it difficult to assert yourself or set boundaries, thus affecting your interactions with others. One of my clients struggled to communicate their needs effectively, which created tension in their personal and professional relationships.
Doubting yourself can have a domino effect on various aspects of your life, from personal growth to interpersonal connections. Fortunately, I’ve seen many clients overcome their self-doubt and thrive by developing self-awareness, practicing self-compassion, and taking consistent action. It’s never too late!
