Why Hire a Life Coach?

A coach is your best investment

How Can a life Coach Help Me?

I’ve heard it time and time again…

  • Why would I need a coach?
  • If I had money to spend on a coach, I wouldn’t need one.
  • I know what I need to do, I just need to do it.
  • The list of excuses goes on and on.

The truth is, most of us need a coach. Many of us have one or have had one at some point in our life, we just didn’t realize it.

  • Remember when you were in high school and had that one teacher that understood you? The one that could hold your teenage, hormonal self, accountable without making you defiant?
  • Remember that one employer that connected with you and helped you become better at your job and a better person overall?
  • Or maybe you were in sports and had that coach that immersed themselves in all aspects of your life.
  • How about that family member that helped to guide you, mentor you and hold you accountable to your goals?

Regardless of who you’ve had in your life that has supported, guided and held you accountable, that person was, in fact, a coach.

You have a choice

People have free will to change. But people don’t change because it’s easier not to. Our current situation is, in our mind, better than the unknown. It’s easier to go to work every day at a job we don’t love than it is to figure out our passion and pursue the unknown.  Let’s face it, if it was easy to change and obtain the life you want, you would have done it already.

Is hiring a life coach worth it?

  • So, is it worth an investment if you could reach your goals?
  • Are you worth the investment?
  • Are you worth a short term challenge for long term growth and success?

Of course you are!

We all have a vision of what we want our lives to look like, or at least a broad idea. So, where’s the road block? What stops us from getting there? Money? Time? Motivation? Plan?

I don’t think any of these are the reason. I believe what it really comes down to is the need for certainty and security.

Sense of security

With that in mind, you are probably asking yourself how a coach can give you certainty and security.  The answer is, I can’t and neither can any coach.  But, what we can do is help you make your way in the journey toward your goals.  Let’s look at some of the best ways a coach can help you.

  1. Determine your why – We all have reasons for change, but sometimes, with clarity, our motivation becomes more clear and imminent.
  2. Analyze your personal blocks – Everyone has different issues that prohibit them from moving on. For some of us, it’s clear, for others, it takes some digging and analyzing. A coach can help you through assessment tools to determine what is truly prohibiting you from making changes in your life.
  3. Climb obstacles – Once those obstacles are identified, your coach can help you figure out how to overcome them by creating a plan.
  4. Create a plan – Once you determine how to move beyond the obstacles, we can work on creating a plan to help you reach your goal. The plan will typically outline how you will proceed, starting with the end goal and working backward.  There is often an accountability component with built in motivators.
  5. Subjectivity – we all have different perspectives of the world – no one perspective is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, but some perspectives are restrictive and can stop a person becoming who they want to be.
  6. Empowerment – it is within everyone’s capability to adjust the limits of their own perspective. With the help of life coaching, anyone can learn to open their mind if they wish.
  7. Guidance – there is a difference between an instructor and a guide. An instructor shows a person exactly what to do, whereas a guide provides the tools and support a person needs to do something for themselves. A life coach is a guide, not an instructor.

Overall Purpose of a life coach

Coaches support people in many areas (life coach, dating coach, relationship coach, financial coach, etc.) and you can find a coach in almost any area that you need help. It’s important that you recognize that strong, motivated individuals hire coaches.

A coach is not hired by weak people. This is an old perception that is quickly fading. Clients range from high end executives to students to stay at home moms and dads to professionals to everyone in between. A coach is your best investment to help facilitate real change in your life.

So, I’ll ask again. Is a short term investment worth long term success and positive change? I believe the answer to this is a resounding yes.

Regardless of what you need to do to make it happen, hiring a coach will pay off in the long run.
