How Hypnotherapy Can Help Your Life

(You are getting hungry… very hungry..)

Got a bad habit that needs kicking?  Hypnotherapy is a great solution.  You may have seen the dastardly hypnotist villain on TV before, ensnaring the will of a naive damsel in distress and making her helpless to his command.  In the world of hypnotherapy, this image could not be farther from fact.

Hypnosis, in reality, has helped make profound lifestyle changes for its patients. They lose weight.  They become more confident.  And in some cases, their lives are even saved.  Still skeptical?  Let’s put all preconceived notions aside and take a further look at how hypnotherapy could help you.

A myth debunked

First of all, the image of a Snidely Whiplash-style bad guy taking unwilling control of the heroine is purely fiction.  Nobody can hypnotize you against your will.  Nobody. Rule number 1 of hypnosis: all hypnosis is self hypnosis.

So then, you might wonder, what’s the point of going to a hypnotherapist to do something you are, effectively, doing yourself?  Because while all hypnosis is self hypnosis, most people have no idea where to start.  Hypnotherapists act as a guide, setting a road map for your mind to follow.  You are the only one who can allow yourself into the state of deep relaxation necessary for hypnosis, and you will only follow the suggestions that you want to follow.  No matter how sound asleep you might be.  Whether to lose weight, overcome a phobia, or boost your confidence in public, each change is simply your unconscious agreeing with a suggestion.

The power of the unconscious mind

Why is hypnosis so powerful?  Because your unconscious is, and being put into a deep state of relaxation is one of the most effective ways to try and change it for the better.  Take an irrational phobia for example.  You don’t know why you’re deathly afraid of cats, but through hypnotherapy, you can start to overcome this fear by conditioning yourself not to have your first reaction to them be one of fear.

Effective hypnotherapy can also make invasive surgical procedures like gastric bypass unnecessary.  Many hypnosis patients have been successfully hypnotized into experiencing the procedure, or lap band surgery, without ever actually having to go into an operating room.  Convincing yourself that you underwent a surgery may seem like an extreme example, but it has a proven track record.  People have actually experienced long term weight loss results because of it.

Should you try it?

If you have been plagued by a phobia, bad habit, or debilitating lack of confidence, it does no harm at all to explore hypnotherapy as an option.  The most common complaint the practice receives is that it is not entirely effective, but 95% of the time, these quibbles come from individuals who did not trust the process.  A huge factor in the success of hypnotherapy is how much you want to go with its flow.  If you can relax your mind and be open to suggestibility, you stand to win big results with a hypnotherapy session.
