How to Deal with Distress

How to overcome distress

Distress can quickly become overwhelming and sometimes even debilitating. The following list demonstrates how to deal with distress by overcoming stressful thoughts:

  1. Failure is a part of the learning process, it does not mean that I am a failure or worthless
  2. Know that this too shall pass
  3. I am not any real danger
  4. Nobody is perfect
  5. My feelings will not kill me
  6. I have experience much worse than this and survived
  7. I am stronger than i sometimes believe I am
  8. The way that I am feeling is completely natural
  9. I am not a bad person
  10. This is an opportunity to challenge myself and grow

As you read through the list, think about your own similar thoughts that might help you to overcome distress.
