Spiritual Life Coaching is Carving its Own Niche

A spiritual coach can help you fit the pieces of the puzzle.

Life coaching is a relatively new concept.  As it has gained in popularity it has also started to diversify.  Now you can find different life coaches for many areas of your life and that specialize in specific areas. Spiritual life coaching is one of these areas.

Before you go speeding past this article for fear of having religion stuffed down your throat, let me explain.  Spiritual life coaching does not necessarily mean religious coaching, it is just a way of helping you discover things about yourself such as what your personal values and beliefs are. This is an area that often gets put to the back of your mind, but is very fundamental in understanding many of your behaviors.

Do you need a spiritual life coach?

One of the flags to look for when trying to determine if you could use the services of a spiritual coach is if you are questioning the things you were taught as a child. Another is if you have a longing for something that you really can’t identify. These are areas where a Spiritual Life Coach may be able to help you work things through so that you feel confident in the decisions you make in this area of your life.

There are many spiritual coaches that will choose to focus on a specific religious tradition such as Christianity.  However, there are many different coaches out there who are available to help you make or keep the spiritual connections that you need.

Identifying a spiritual coach that will work with you

Because you will be talking about your spirituality and things that are intimate and personal, it may be difficult to open up and trust someone in this area.  That is one of the reasons that it is very important that you feel safe and comfortable with your coach.

A good match for you when considering a spiritual coach will be to find someone who is open and has had a lot of different experiences with different religious teachings.  If someone tries to sell you on a certain religion, then they probably aren’t your best choice for a spiritual coach.

Instead someone who can help you to recognize and learn about the many differences in beliefs is a better match. This will help you be able to identify and form your own beliefs.

What can you look forward to

The basic coaching path is the same even in specialized niches like spiritual coaching.  The coach is there to help you determine what you desire, what your needs are and how to implement them into your life.

These goals are often accomplished by journal activities, and helping you to discover what your interests and beliefs are. Often it will prove to be a very educational time. Your coach will help you understand what importance your current values have, as well as identify other values that you might not realize you hold, but suddenly seem important.

If you have a spiritual base in your life then working with a spiritual coach may be helpful in sorting out what your beliefs are.  If you are feeling like that piece is missing then a spiritual life coach may be just what you need to help you identify the things that are important and that you value. A spiritual life coach will help you fit the missing piece into your life.
