More to Life Than This

If you’re sitting at your job thinking “There’s got to be more to life than this”

Read this:

I have felt the same way for years. To me my cubicle was nothing more than a cell. The headset that plugged in to my phone was nothing more than my ball and chain. The bathroom, break and lunch tags that we had to use to notify to management where we are at all times were their way of keeping a head count at all times.

Weekends or days off were our “good behavior passes”. But even those days off were not always guaranteed. The famous mandatory overtime Saturday and Sunday was always lurking in the midst of Friday afternoons. The paycheck was just enough for our bare necessities. Tooth brush, food, utility bills etc. If you had some left over money, you just maybe able to get yourself some fluffy slippers.

When I found myself in this vicious circle of thought, I decided to seek an alternative. The thought cross my head that I was tired of living my family life around my work life.

I wanted to change it to be the other way around. Not that I did not want to work, but that I wanted to work around my family life. To me, my family is a priority and I want to live my life as such.

The first time this came to mind, my first reaction was: “that’s a fantasy” “There is no such thing.” “This existed as much a unicorn existed.” “I’m dreaming.”

Well, anger roused within me. I asked myself why not? This is my life. I live it my way. I guess the rebel within me came out. I set out to live my life, my way. Against the tide or not, I was not going to take no for answer.

As I began my journey, I encounter many different opportunities where I can realize my dream. After experimenting with a few, I came to the conclusion that my breakthrough did not depend on the opportunity’s worthiness but on ME.

I learned that many times many opportunities come our way and we do not know how to take advantage of them. Along the way, I discovered another person within me that sitting behind a desk as another employee number would never have allowed to  develop. The road has not been without its bumps, hills and plateaus. But the end result has been well worth it.

Today, I have realized my dream. I have jumped leaps and bounds and have reached new milestones every day.

But as I sit here seeing this unfold right before my very eyes, I cannot help but to think: “I cannot possibly be the only one that has felt this way”

It’s that statement that brought me to this note. I want to hear from you, if this is you. If you find yourself in that vicious circle of thought “There’s got to be more to life than this!”

Let’s talk, I want to hear from you.
